The biggest contemporary art exhibition in the country again attracted thousands of art lovers from South Africa and many other parts of the world.
The work on display at the fair was out of this world. This year the artists' creativity took the standard to a higher level.
The work included multimedia, sculptures, photography, video art, painting, print-making and more.
It was inspiring to see artists pushing their creativity to the limit. Though there were not as many pieces as in the previous two years, those displayed were of a very high quality.
Art enthusiasts will agree that art fairs are undoubtedly the best and most interesting shopping venues. At this three-day event artists, galleries, buyers and art professionals feasted their eyes on the best art.
With so much space and thousands of art works on offer, close to 10500 visitors attended the fair last year.
This year, by the looks of it, the number has increased though the official statistics were not get out at the time of writing.
Though the fair is a platform for artists to exhibit their art, it is also an opportunity for them to make money. At the first Joburg Art Fair in 2008, art worth R30million was sold.
Sculptors, who stole the limelight displayed beautiful pieces that included a toilet seat by Barend de Wet, a skin sculpture by Nandipha Mntambo and a wired piece by Hentie van der Merwe called Hare .
Boasting the largest collection of African contemporary art, this year's fair featured 36 artists representing their various galleries.
Art fairs are about combining art and lifestyle and appealing to an audience that might ordinarily shy away from a gallery.
This year's show offered an excellent opportunity to assess the state of contemporary art, the tastes and the buying habits of art buyers. The fair housed 23 art galleries as well as 11 special projects.
Since its inception the success and attraction of the Joburg Art Fair has been its ability to provide collectors and connoisseurs of art with a single point of access to both galleries and artists.
South Africa was represented by Jodi Bieber, Lisa Brice, William Kentridge, Kagiso Pat Mautloa, Sam Nhlengethwa and Mbongeni Buthelezi, among others.
