Bank baffled by video unit probe

ABSA yesterday set the record straight about the privately owned video production company in Brazil with Bafana Bafana, saying they commissioned them.

This comes in the wake of media reports that Safa has launched an investigation into how the crew landed up in the Bafana camp. Sponsorship manager Steward Masela said the crew's presence was approved by the Safa leadership.

"The video production company is in Brazil as part of our sponsorship agreement with Safa. I can't understand media reports that Safa don't know about the company in Brazil.

"We have meetings on Tuesdays with Safa as part of the sponsorship management committee, attended by the commercial and communications department," Masela said.

"Those people are sending out visual material to SABC news, e.tv and SuperSport channels. We get regular updates from the video production company, which helps to keep South Africans up to date with the developments in Brazil.

Safa president Kirsten Nematandani is aware of the video crew in Brazil with Bafana Bafana. Sowetan has learnt that the video production company is also doing Up The Bucs on SuperSport, a television show dealing with current news about Orlando Pirates.
