ZIMBABWEAN visual artist, Kudzanai Chiurai, who is at present exhibiting at Goodman Gallery at the Art On Main in Johannesburg, has an interestingly creative mind.

This is evident in his latest work - Communists and Hot Chicken Wings: The Birth of a New Nation.

In it Chiurai extends his creativity to the unclear world of African politics with a new installation.

The artist takes his briefing from a series of large-scale photographs criticising the representation and aesthetics of political power and produced for his solo exhibition at the Goodman Gallery in Cape Town last year.

This time he moves the action forward with a series of large linocuts, an oversized mural and the fictional remains of a presidential assassination.

Though he is known primarily as a painter, Chiurai extends his practice to a broad public engagement not allowing himself to be confined to one technique.

His work as producer, editor and designer is often seen on informal networks and situations and is intimately connected to his political activism.

This wide-ranging approach is shown in a body of work that embraces photography, publishing, music, public art and fashion.
