AMAZULU coach Neil Tovey was far from impressed by his shaky defence after they twice conceded soft goals when they were leading against SuperSport United on Saturday.

"We performed as a unit and also worked very hard throughput proceedings. But a lack of concentration by our defence at crucial moments and letting in silly goals almost let us down on two occasions after taking the lead," he said.

"That is a great cause for concern for us and we need to do something before our semifinal match. But at the end of the day we ultimately won and did justice to ourselves."

AmaZulu beat Matsatsantsa a Pitori 4-1 on penalties in the quarterfinal of the Telkom Knockout at Super Stadium on Saturday.

AmaZulu led 1-0 from a goal scored by Dumisani Ngwenya in the 42nd minute. The Durbanites were almost certain to win the game at regulation time when United equalised through through a Brent Carelse free kick in the 90th minute to send the game to extra-time.

AmaZulu regained their lead in extra-time through Mark van Heerden in 95th minute, But just when everybody thought AmaZulu had the game wrapped up, United struck two minutes before the end via Dario Monterio. Then the game reached the dreaded shootout.

AmaZulu's penalties were netted by Kabamba Chintu, Van Heerden, Tsweu Mokoro and captain Pere Aruweriyai. AmaZulu goalie Mbongeni Mzimela saved twice denying Dario Monterio and Brent Carelse.
