Three held over extortion

A MAN posing as a Sars employee and two police reservists have been arrested for soliciting money from foreigners.

The 32-year-old civilian and two reservists, aged 28 and 35, from the Piet Retief police station in Mpuma-langa, were arrested on Friday after they allegedly threatened three foreign nationals with arrest if they did not give them cash.

Police spokesperson Captain Magonseni Nkosi said the police learnt that the three had demanded that the foreigners produce permits to be in the country.

Nkosi said the men had already received R4 250 from the first two victims at the time of their arrest.

l Meanwhile, two student police constables from the same police station were arrested last week for alleged kidnapping, rape, intimidationand assaulting a teenage girl last month.
