ATHLETICS South Africa (ASA) has expresses its sadness at the passing away of hammer throw athlete Douw Steenkamp, during a car accident in Mpumalanga last week.
ASA's Ray Mali said Steenkamp's death was a "sad loss to the athletics family in South Africa."
Steenkamp, won bronze at the Yellow Pages Senior Track and Field Championships in Durban last weekend. He threw a career best distance of 62.62m at the Yellow Pages Series meeting last Wednesday.
