THE Congress of South African Students have passed a motion of no confidence In its provincial chairperson Tsebo Malatji and replaced him.
Malatji was immediately replaced with Lehlogonolo Masoga, pictured, who is now the preferred candidate to also lead the ANC Youth League for another term.
The decision, supported by four of the five regions, was taken at the Cosas's provincial executive committee meeting on Saturday.
The regions that supported the move were Waterberg, Capricorn, Sekhukhune and Vhembe. Only Mopani, where Malatji comes from, did not support the motion.
The move is seen as a boost for Masoga, who is entangled in a bitter battle to retain his position. The race will be decided at the league's provincial congress scheduled for April 9 to 11.
Cosas provincial secretary Sammy Makhubela confirmed yesterday that Malatji was outvoted.
Makhubela claimed Malatji failed to give proper political direction as the face of the organisation. He also allegedly failed to defend Grade 11 learners whom the provincial department of education insisted had to repeat their grades. though they had passed
"A national resolution by Cosas - to force the Department of Education to provide free and compulsory education for all learners, failing which Cosas had resolved to disrupt World Cup activities - were shunned by Malatji," Makhubela said.
He said among other resolutions taken at the weekend were that Masoga should lead the ANCYL in the province a second term because they would again see the character of the ANCYL of the likes of Peter Mokaba, "who led with distinction."
Malatji allegedly attempted to disrupt the PEC meeting when the motion against him was tabled.
The meeting was chaired by his deputy, Shoki Masha, who is now acting provincial chairperson.
The province also wants former Cosas national president Kenny Motshegoa to be part of the new PEC, Makhubela said,
