Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele will also launch the Easter Arrive Alive campaign in Limpopo today.
Transport spokesperson Logan Maistry said. "We are launching the campaign in Limpopo because millions of people will flock to this province for a religious service.
"The spirit of ubuntu should go all the way to our roads.People should start respecting each other on the roads. They should also obey road rules."
Road traffic management corporation senior manager of enforcement coordination Ashraf Ismail said they would continue with the rolling enforcement plan's Operation Clean Sweep.
"The operation focuses on driver and vehicle fitness. We check whether vehicles are in good working condition," Ismail said.
"There should not be overloading. Drivers should be fit to drive long distances and should have proper papers to show they are fit to drive that vehicle."
Ismail said their main focus would be on pedestrian safety.
"We will be looking out for pedestrians who drink and walk. About 45percent of accidents are due to alcohol abuse. Drunk driving will not be tolerated."
Meanwhile, the North West department of public safety has suspended the licences of 37 buses during a campaign to rid roads of unsafe public transport ahead of the Easter weekend.
Spokesperson Lesiba Kgwele said: "The buses have not been impounded because testing was voluntary, but their licences have been suspended to prevent them from operating during the Easter weekend."- Sibongile Mashaba
