They are vilified for poor results when the schools at which they teach are woefully under-resourced.
Yet, the government aggressively defends its ill thought- out policies which make teaching an uphill battle.
This, while the government spends millions in golden parachutes to get rid of its dubious political appointees who failed parastatals.
Collins Chabane, the new Minister of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, promised a lot when he came before the cameras to charm the nation.
Still, hospitals cannot pay their creditors, services collapse because of irregular expenditures and malfeasance, and small businesses go bankrupt as municipalities fail to pay for services rendered.
To date Chabane has done nothing much to deserve his salary. We suspect that ministers do not rebuke each other over their ineptitude. Cabinet ministers nearly broke their ankles running off to buy fancy, expensive cars.
We demand, in all fairness, that they hurry up and fix the smouldering mess that is government service delivery.
Do not, as the Nigerians say, eat alone.
