Khwela's achievement came as no surprise as she qualified first in the vault, fractionally ahead of Croatian Tijana Tkalcec. She dominated the vault qualification round, where her landings were solid and precise. She claimed the gold with 13,850 points on her first pass and 13,950 points on her second.

She also qualified on beam with 13,175 points in fifth place as well as the floor with 12,925 points in seventh place. The 18-year-old was set to compete yesterday in the corresponding finals.

Team manager Arianne Milton was ecstatic over Khwela's performance. The tournament at the Aspire Academy of Sports Excellence in Doha, Qatar, has attracted 67 gymnasts. Gymnasts from developing nations have had a great showing at the Cup. - Sapa
