DESPITE having a career that young actors can only dream of, Judy Ditchfield remains humble and determined to better herself.

DESPITE having a career that young actors can only dream of, Judy Ditchfield remains humble and determined to better herself.

Nutritional supplements have helped her deal with the pressure of being both a mother and working actress. Today she puts several brands of nutritional preparations to the test.

Judy fell in love with the theatre at the age of five when she shared the stage with international singing stars Elizabeth Vaughn and David Hughes.

After studying for a degree in psychology and speech and drama at what is now the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, she became a founder member of Napac's Loft Theatre Company.

In 1987 she moved to Johannesburg, where she acted in musicals such as Richard Loring's A Touch of Webber, A Taste of Rice , Pact's The Buddy Holly Story and Fielas' Child: The Musical , in which she was nominated as Best Supporting Actress.

Judy has also taken her act to TV. Fans of the soapie Isidingo know her as Stella, whom Judy describes as a "mad, loud gossip".

"Stella loves young men and just thinks she's the hottest thing ever".

Judy says playing such a robust character requires skill.

"It's too easy to slip into an over-the-top caricature."

She has also had roles in Suburban Bliss, Hoof of Africa, Yizo Yizo and Zero Tolerance.

Along the way Judy has reaped the benefits of using nutritional supplements.

She starts with Nutren Active. "The packaging looks old-fashioned. The taste is okay. It tastes like powdered milk but better."

Next she tries Clicks Nutritional Supplement. "This is gluten-free. The taste is quite sweet, which is not very enjoyable."

She tries Ensure Meal Replacement. "I used to use this some years ago. It was good for whenever I was sick and didn't feel like eating anything. It has quite a strong vanilla taste."

Lastly she tries Pedia Sure Complete. "This tastes like baby milk. It doesn't have enough flavour, so I don't know if kids will like it."
