We are reminded of the importance of the register amid reports that the ministry of Human Settlement has netted more than 2000 corrupt officials and recovered more than R30million of taxpayers' money.
Of serious concern are reports that fraudsters have not been put on the register - as required by law.
It is another example of the government initiating mechanisms for running a clean and effective administration - but then failing to implement those mechanisms effectively.
This can only undermine the public's confidence in the administration's commitment to fighting corruption.
