LOS ANGELES - Wesley Korir successfully defended his Los Angeles Marathon title, using a strong finishing kick to edge countryman Richard Limo and lead a Kenyan podium sweep on Sunday.

LOS ANGELES - Wesley Korir successfully defended his Los Angeles Marathon title, using a strong finishing kick to edge countryman Richard Limo and lead a Kenyan podium sweep on Sunday.

The 27-year-old Korir pulled away at the 40km mark to finish in a time of 2hrs:9min:19sec, 29 seconds faster than Limo, who clocked 2:09:48. Paul Samoei was third in 2:09:54.

Korir earned $25000 (R182000) and a new car for the victory while women's winner Edna Kiplagat collected the lion's share of prize money by picking up a $100000 (R728000) bonus as top overall finisher. - Sapa-AFP
