The music and entertainment industry in KwaZulu-Natal has been dealt a major blow by the death of one of the province's finest musicians.

Afro-Jazz musician Andile Mseleku died in a Durban hospital yesterday morning.

Mseleku rose to stardom when she won the category of best newcomer during last year's South African Music Awards.

She was one of the finest Afro-jazz musicians the province has produced.

Her swift development into a fully fledged artist has had the support of her musical family,

She had worked with as she worked with Themba Mkhize, Andile Yenana, her late sister Wendy Mseleku and also her late uncle Bheki Mseleku.

Her father, Langa Mseleku, said they had been dealt a major blow by her death. He said Andile had not been well after winning the award last year.

"She has been in and out of hospital, but we never thought she would succumb to death," Mseleku said.

"When we went to visit her at the hospital we were told she died after midnight. We will sorely miss her."
