SANTOS would like nothing better than to put one over Kaizer Chiefs when they meet in the Telkom Knockout on Sunday at Newlands Stadium.

The two sides last met in November last year with Amakhosi emerging 1-0 victors. The match was marred by controversy after what looked a legitimate goal by Eleazar Rogers was denied after officials decided the ball had not crossed the line.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic will watch the game from the stands. He is serving a suspension for storming the pitch in their match against Mpumalanga Black Aces and his deputy Donald Khuse will hold the fort in his absence.

Santos coach Boebie Solomons said they will go all out to even the score with Amakhosi. "We are going to use what happened the last time we played them as motivation. We do not hold a grudge against Chiefs because it was not their fault but rather the match officials'," Solomons said. He admitted that he was nervous about coming up against Chiefs.

"I'm very nervous. Chiefs is a great team with great facilities, a good coach and very good players. But I also have faith in my players. There was no team this season that outplayed us, which shows that we are on the right path," he said.

Vermezovic acknowledged in midweek that under Boebie Solomons, The People's Team are difficult to penetrate as they are very organised, so it will be interesting to see how Amakhosi will break them down. The match kicks off at 3pm.
