UNSUNG heroine Aletta Makgokolotso Kobeli, 84, who selflessly gave support to her community has died.
Kobeli, nee Fokane, was born on May 29 1925. She was married to the late Tseko Kobeli for 50 years.
They lived at 40 Khatello Street, Molapo, Soweto.
From early on in her life, Kobeli was committed to the upliftment of communities.
She served on a number of committees, including the Moroka School Board and was a committee member of Morris Isaacson High School. She was one of the founders of Zimele, a self- help burial scheme in Soweto.
Kobeli was a mother to all and she was adored by her community, who came to her with their problems and triumphs. She was known for sharing what little she had with others.
She was a mentor to her family and the community. She used her resources to encourage and assist young people to believe in education, skills and being self- sufficient.
She is survived by her three daughters, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Kobeli will be buried at Avalon Cemetery tomorrow. The service will be at the Methodist Church in Rockville from 8.30am to 11am.
