AN ALLEGED serial rapist pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and indecent assault in the Pietermaritzburg high court on Wednesday.

Sibusiso Sithole is facing two charges of indecent assault and six counts of rape. Sithole, 34, said he was not guilty on all charges.

He was charged for indecent assault on two cases as these incidents happened before February 2007 when the Sexual Offences Amendment Act of February 2007 was promulgated.

Offenders could be sentenced to life in prison.

Three of the rape cases were perpetrated before the promulgation of the new Act, while Sithole allegedly committed an "indecent assault" after the new Act was promulgated. He was charged with rape.

He also allegedly committed two rapes after February 2007.

Sithole was also charged with three attempted robberies, aggravated assault and kidnapping.
