The no-fee school, which is in the impoverished area of Eikenhof, has no library, no staffroom and no laboratories.
Many of the pupils are orphans or live in child-headed homes. The children are all bused in from neighbouring informal settlements. The school has a garden, the produce of which is given to children to take home.
Principal Ella Matlejoana said the school would buy mobile cabinets with chemicals for science experiments.
"We will pay for Saturday tutors and for trips to Sci-Bono, twice a term, for experiments. The money is of great help and we hope to improve our pass rate to 80percent."
Winky Ximiya, a business development director at KV3, which is based in Cape Town, said his company was responding to the desperate need for engineers in SA.
"Moses Marens was identified as one of the schools to benefit from the Dr Franklin Sonn Scheme. We want to see an improvement in maths and science." - Nthabisang Moreosele
