THE Automobile Association statement about the country's roads fast becoming the most dangerous in the world is a wake-up call to all of us.

Any country that loses the lives of at least 10 school pupils to road accident every year must stand up, listen and do something.

This situation requires all of us to do something. It does not only affect the government but also the general populace, including motorists and pedestrians.

The government must ensure that the roads are maintained and clamp down on un-roadworthy cars. The police must ensure that no drunken drivers use our roads. One way of dealing with drunken drivers and speedsters is to increase police visibility on our roads.

The police must take serious action against jaywalkers and pedestrians who believe they own the roads.
