In the past few weeks there has been feverish activity while the regional judging took place. A hundred works from the pool of entries were selected as finalists for the Absa l'Atelier competition.
The overall winner will be announced at a gala exhibition in Johannesburg on July 21.
Mdluli's ceramic work has been included among the finalists, making her a potential winner of the awards.
The selected works are being exhibited until tomorrow at Absa Gallery, Upper Ground Level , Absa Towers North, 161 Main Street, Johannesburg, between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
It is among the exhibited pieces that you will find Mdluli's artwork titled Addicted to trash and murder.
Mdluli explained what her artwork is all about: "Addicted to Trash and Murder is basically about or is inspired by war, violence, economic imbalances that exist in our society and how accommodative we have become to these issues.
"It's about using war and violence in the name of democracy.
"It's about realising that not everybody can end the day with a warm cup of tea and we need to stop living at the expense of someone else.
"I think the Absa L'Atelier competition is one of the most prestigious competition around and just being able to take part in it is a wonderful opportunity.
"I think it could open many doors and create possibilities for me. It is great to have something to work towards to and this competition is one of them. It's an honour to take part,"Mdluli said.
