Lions hold all the Aces after 2-all draw

TWO quick first-half goals by Mpumalanga Black Aces against Nathi Lions in the first leg of the Premier Soccer League promotional playoffs had the home fans thinking that they would stroll their way to victory.

TWO quick first-half goals by Mpumalanga Black Aces against Nathi Lions in the first leg of the Premier Soccer League promotional playoffs had the home fans thinking that they would stroll their way to victory.

But it wasn't to be as the visitors had other ideas and hit back to hold Aces to a 2-all draw. Aces played hosts to Lions at the Puma Rugby Stadium in a match that produced four first-half goals.

Mpho Maleka scored a brace for Aces. He opened his account as early as the first minute and completed his brace in the 13th minute.

But Amazayoni took their foot off the pedal, and the cunning Lions smelt blood, and pounced. First Songwe Chalwe pulled one back, then captain Nhlanhla Ncube levelled matters with four minutes remaining before interval to bring Aces back to earth.

Realising the mess they were in, the hosts started the second half much more determined, but their strikers were found wanting and chance after chance went begging.
