Safa region rebuilding

THE newly elected executive committee of Safa Capricorn region has vowed to turn the once factious region into an effective one.

THE newly elected executive committee of Safa Capricorn region has vowed to turn the once factious region into an effective one.

The region was marred by infighting that rendered it nonfunctional and as a result the Watson Mabusa-led executive committee was dissolved in December.

Abel Rakoma, the regional president, said they had put in place a programme of action aimed at stabilising the region.

"We have elected new committees at the Local Football Associations (LFAs), we are busy with the SAB League playoffs, while the selections for the regional Under-21 SAB League will be held this weekend in Polokwane. We will hold inductions for the new leadership in the near future to ensure that the committee members understand what is expected of them," Rakoma said yesterday.

"We will ensure that every LFA has development leagues from U-12 boys and girls to U-21. This will also include the development of referees, considering that currently most of our referees have outgrown the development stage and need to officiate at higher divisions. We are happy that even the Capricorn District municipality-sponsored women's league is going well. So far we have achieved our short-term goals." said Rakoma.
