FIERCE competition is expected today when Black Leopards, African Warriors, Nathi Lions and Mpumalanga Black Aces fight it out in the battle for promotion to the Absa Premiership.

Leopards, Warriors and Lions campaign in the National First Division, while Aces are partially relegated from the elite league.

Today's matches are recognised officially as the first leg of the promotional playoffs.

Leopards will host Warriors at Tshifulanani Stadium. Kickoff is at 3.30pm.

Leopards failed to clinch a place in the top flight after losing 3-2 on aggregate to Vasco da Gama in an earlier shootout between the top two teams in the NFD.

Leopards and Warriors will enter the race on an equal footing after they beat each other once and drew 2-2 during their three league matches this season.

Leopards' spokesperson, Fulufhelo Thidiela, warned that his club worked hard on their finishing, which was disappointing previously, while Warriors' coach, Ashwin Sutton, expects an early goal to unsettle Leopards.

Aces will entertain Lions at Puma Rugby Stadium in Witbank at 7.30pm. Aces' spokesperson, Thabo Moroape, said they would be careful against the KwaZulu-Natal side he described as a closed book.

Lions' assistant coach, Julius Dube, warned that their hosts would not know what hit them. Lions' Malawian international, Moses Chavula, is injured.
