Man critical after green mamba bite

A MAN was hospitalised after he was bitten by a green mamba in Shakaskraal near Stanger yesterday , KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

A MAN was hospitalised after he was bitten by a green mamba in Shakaskraal near Stanger yesterday , KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said: "The man had been walking along the main road and he stepped into a payphone facility.

"As he did so the snake, which had been beneath the container, emerged and bit him once on his left leg."

Paramedics managed to stabilise the 39-year-old man who was complaining of pain in his leg. On arrival at the hospital the man's condition deteriorated dramatically and he had to be placed on a ventilator.

On Friday a farmworker's thick jacket saved his life after a black mamba struck him three times in the shoulder in Richmond near Pietermaritzburg. The man was unharmed. - Sapa
