Nomvethe player of month, Zobel top coach

SIYABONGA Nomvethe's terrific form, which has had some calling for his recall to the national team, did not go unnoticed since he was named the Absa Premiership player of the month for February.

"I am happy with my contribution despite niggling injuries," "Bhele", the Moroka Swallows striker, said yesterday.

"It has not been that difficult playing at home after having played in Europe. I was injured a lot but I never gave up and I did a lot of extra training, which helped."

Nomvethe said doing well for his club was important before he could entertain thoughts of returning to Bafana Bafana.

"I am proud of the way I have played and I am grateful to the technical team who kept pushing me to work hard. I still have a lot to offer," he said.

Swallows scored a brace of awards when coach Rainer Zobel was named coach of the month. His side finished eighth on the log and Zobel said that was due to hard work and teamwork.

"Football is not a one-man show. Everyone played an important role so winning these awards shows that we are working in the right direction," he said.

But Zobel was disappointed about bombing out of the Telkom Knockout in the first round. "Winning the Cup is the easiest way to make money," he said.
