SuperSport United have advanced to the quarter finals of the Telkom Knockout.

Matsatsantsa thumped a listless Mpumalanga Black Aces 5-1 at Puma Stadium in Witbank yesterday having started the game on the offensive.

They had the Witbank side's defence at sixes and sevens and immediately took advantage. Defender Phelelani Mpangase's header went off the mark the 10th minute while Tebogo Langerman missed a sitter a few minutes later.

But Langerman made amends in the 25th minute when he lobbed over Aces' goalie Chad Harpur to give United a 1-0 lead.

Aces did not show any urgency except for Gilbert Mushangazhike, whose strike was easily collected by goalkeeper Denis Onyango. The score was 1-0 at half time.

Barely two minutes into the second stage United's businesslike striker Anthony Laffor increased the score after a goalmouth melee.

Five minutes later Langerman completed his brace. He first mesmerised Harpur before sending in a low shot inside the gaping net.

Thabo Mongalo stretched United's lead to 4-0, and Aces' fans were furious but the situation quickly was defused by the league security personnel.

Fans were baying for the blood of coach Savvas Agiomamitis. Eight minutes into full time Thandani Ntshumayelo widened the gap to 5-0 while Mushangazhike scored consolation goal for Aces.

This defeat could impact negatively on players' mentality as they fight for their PSL status on Wednesday in the relegation or promotion game against Nathi Lions.

Meanwhile Ajax Cape Town moved closer to defending their Telkom Knockout title with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Moroka Swallows at Newlands Stadium yesterday.

The solitary goal was netted by Granwald Scott in the 118th minute.

l Bafana Bafana drew 0-0 with Volta Redonda in a friendly in Brazil on Saturday night.
