GDE in bid to defuse college tension

The Gauteng department education (GDE) is in mediation with stakeholders at the Tshwane South College to solve problems at the institutions.

The Gauteng department education (GDE) is in mediation with stakeholders at the Tshwane South College to solve problems at the institutions.

The department decided to temporarily close the college's Attridgeville campus on Thursday after violent protests that saw students setting fire to a classroom.

The students were angry over alleged mismanagement and the unavailability of study materials. Some lecturers complained that they were overlooked for promotion and salary increases.

The college is expected to open tomorrow.

Due to the closure students missed two exams, Financial Management Level 4 and Engineering Graphics and Design Paper 2, level 3, on Friday.

GDE spokesperson Charles Phahlane said they were making arrangements for the students to write at a later date.
