DURING the worst of apartheid's repression, ANC activist Khosi Mbatha, who died last week, dared the system by clandestinely helping many youths to skip into exile.

In one of her missions, Mbatha was bitten by a snake and barely managed to survive after being treated in Swaziland.

With her husband Alex, the chairperson of the ANC Gauteng Veterans League, they turned their Dube home into a safe house, giving mostly the June 16 activists refuge before helping them skip the country. The security police harassed the family, intermittently detaining some of them.

Mbatha will be buried at West park Cemetery tomorrow . The service will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Dube from 8am.
