Makgarebe, as the national women side known, trumped their hosts 9-1 in the FiFa World Cup qualifier. This game was like a curtain-raiser for both countries men' s national teams.
Amabinneplaas, the locally based South Africans, drew 0-0 with Botswana. This was the qualifier for the 2011 All Africa Games and the 2012 London Olympics.
Both the women's and men's matches were played at the University of Botswana.
Solly Luvhengo, who was coaching the women' side for the first time, described his assignment as having been a pleasure.
"I was very happy with the girls' work ethic and their attitude. More importantly, they scored the goals," he said.
Makgarebe led 6-1 in the first half five of which were scored by Tshegofatso Makinta while Christelene Jantjies netted two with Robin Moodaly and Kelso Peskin scoring one apiece.
Luvhengo said he was well aware of the negative side to the score.
"In two weeks' time when Botswana come to South Africa, there should be no complacency from my team," Luvhengo said.
The South Africans will play Nigeria after Botswana.
"Right now, we aim to complete the job against Botswana - then prepare properly for Nigeria," Luvhengo said.
Travelling with the boys was good for the girls as we could support one another, Luvhebngo said.
"They watched our game and I was humbled by how they came and congratulated the girls afterwards.
"We returned the favour by staying behind to watch their match as well."
