SEVEN people were injured when a taxi they were travelling in overturned on the N3 highway near the Hammarsdale on-ramp, west of Durban, the city's paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said paramedics arrived at the scene and found the taxi lying on its side in the middle of the freeway.

He said it was believed that a mechanical problem led to the driver losing control of the vehicle on Saturday.

"Two people suffered serious injuries and needed specialised equipment to help protect their necks and backs from further injuries.

"Five other people, who included the driver, sustained minor to moderate injuries," he said.

All patients were stabilised on the scene before being taken to Northdale Hospital for further treatment.
