Young lads take roller skating to higher level

WHAT parents do for their kids often leads to what they become. That is the case with Andile Duku, who received a pair of roller skates from his parents in 2002. They changed his life for good.

Unlike some of his peers, Andile, of Port Elizabeth in Eastern Cape, chose to forget about attending soccer matches and opted to feel the breeze while on his roller skates.

Now at the age of 14, he is already competing for top honours in skating. In 2008, the teen moved to Lamontville township outside Durban, where he was instrumental in forming the Lamontville Roller Skating Club last year. Now six members of the club will on March 19 participate in the South African Open Speed Championships in Pretoria.
