I AM 22 and my ex-boyfriend is 25 years old.

I AM 22 and my ex-boyfriend is 25 years old.

We were together for almost a year. Our relationship was troubled from the start because we argued so much.

He didn't particularly like my friends and I didn't like his. Somehow we always managed to pull through this because we loved each other.

I don't know his parents but his brothers don't like me because they say that I don't treat him well.

Two months ago we went to a party and had a huge fight. We broke up and I decided I didn't ever want to see him again. He called me names in front of people we know and I was so embarrassed.

That wasn't the first time he did this, but I decided this time would be the last.

He tried to contact me but I refused to take his calls. Eventually I spoke to him and he asked to meet me.

He said he loved me and wanted us to get back together. I still have strong feelings for him, but I am unsure whether this can ever work.

What do you think?

Unless both of you are prepared to make serious changes this relationship will not work.

Couples who constantly fight are normally involved in a power struggle and it never achieves anything.

For him to verbally abuse you in public is unacceptable. It is not only disrespectful to you but to your friends as well.

If you are both prepared to look at your behaviour and constructive ways to change it, then possibly you will be able to have a successful relationship.

You are both individuals and need to take responsibility for your own actions.

Having differences does not have to lead to abusive behaviour. If you decide to go back to him without addressing your problems, you will continue to live a life of hurt and unhappiness.

It is your choice.
