Fast asleep

MEMBERS of Parliament's public enterprise committee this week sent lawyers representing newly appointed SAA CEO Siza Mzimela packing.

MEMBERS of Parliament's public enterprise committee this week sent lawyers representing newly appointed SAA CEO Siza Mzimela packing.

They were not impressed with Mzimela sending a delegation to tell them she would not be answering their questions over SAA's alleged involvement in air ticket price collusion.

Mzimela's lawyers had said responding to their questions might compromise the sub judice rule.

We have to wonder whether these individuals were sleeping when Deputy Police Minister Fikile Mbalula declined to answer questions pertaining to the arrest of Cape Town jogger Chumani Maxwele by President Jacob Zuma's bodyguards.

Now if our public representatives would be as vigilant about all other matters perhaps Parliament's reputation as a mere rubber stamp will disappear.

We'll keep the faith.
