WORLD Cup Local Organising Committee chief executive Danny Jordaan says support from the corporate world is absolutely crucial for a major event like the Fifa World Cup to be a success.
He was speaking yesterday at the signing of a giant Hyundai Goodwill Ball in Parliament.
After signing the 4m high ball just outside the National Assembly building, Jordaan said: "You cannot host an event like this if you don't have commercial partners. It's the lifeblood of the event. Events like these require vision, commitment and support from companies like Hyundai."
It was announced that other members of Parliament should queue to add their notes alongside thousands of other messages left by South Africans across the country.
Cedric Frolick and Litho Suku added messages that read: "Our time has come" and "Mission accomplished", respectively.
The event in Parliament was attended by the parliamentary committee of Tokyo Sexwale, minister of human settlements, Butana Komphela, chairperson of the sport and recreation portfolio committee, committee members and visiting delegates of Fifa.
Stanley Anderson of Hyundai also attended the event.
"We are thrilled to bring the Hyundai Goodwill Ball to the nation's leaders to add their message of goodwill," Anderson said.
"The ball is travelling the country ahead of the 2010 Fifa World Cup collecting messages of goodwill from South Africans."
In total 32 of the giant Goodwill Balls, each one representing a qualifying nation of the 2010 Fifa World Cup, are travelling across their respective countries collecting messages of goodwill from dignitaries, celebrities and citizens, inspiring the hopes and passion of football fans all over the world.
All the balls are ending their journeys in Johannesburg in June with a great celebration to welcome the world and the teams just before the tournament kicks off on June 11.
