VASCO da Gama are aiming high in their maiden Absa Premiership campaign.

They are targeting a top eight finish and they have already started preparing for the Premiership by searching for experienced players to beef up their squad.

"We want to assemble a formidable squad that will do well. Some of the Premiership clubs are helping us," said coach Carlos das Neves yesterday. His brother Mario is chairperson of the Cape Town club.

Da Gama have assembled an experienced side. One of the top-name players who is part of the set-up is Bradley August, the former SA Under-23 and Bafana Bafana striker who has also played football abroad.

Others are Brian Kgafane, Ashley Opperman, Jason Lee Barnard and Ugandan Geoffrey Sserunkuma.

Meanwhile, the battle for promotion to the elite league continues on March 17.
