OUTSPOKEN arts activist Freddy Nyathela leaves for the UK today to attend an international technical skills conference.

According to Nyathela information that will be exchanged at the conference will benefit live events technicians back home.

Nyathela, president of the South African Roadies Association (Sara), will attend the 22nd edition of the International Live Music Conference (ILMC), which takes place in London, UK, at the Royal Garden Hotel from tomorrow until March 14.

The ILMC is an annual conference dedicated to the live music industry across the globe. The first ILMC took place in 1989.

This initiative brings people together to discuss and compare experiences and is regarded by many as the most successful forum of its kind in the world.

"The visit provides the opportunity to network with international industry professionals (promoters, artists' managers and production managers), attend the ILMC production meeting and to acquire strategic support for Sara. It will also in turn create future opportunities for technical and production oriented youths of South Africa," Nyathela said.

While in the UK, Nyathela will also meet the managing director of the UK National Skills Academy for Creative and Cultural Skills Andy Lenthall to discuss how to implement technical and production skills transfer programmes between UK and South Africa.
