CRICKET SA Youth cricket manager Niels Momberg is recovering in hospital after being shot in an attempted hijacking in the driveway of his home in Parkmore, Johannesburg, early this week.

CSA chief executive Gerald Majola wished Momberg a speedy recovery.

"Members of the cricket family have called to express their dismay at this unfortunate incident," Majola said.

"We wish Niels a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the office soon."

Momberg, whose father was South Africa's former ambassador to Greece, was shot in the chest. The bullet was lodged in his arm.

"Doctors say he was very lucky that the bullet didn't hit any vital organs," his bother Altus said yesterday.

"He is doing well, and watched the Varsity Cup match between Maties and Ikeys on TV last night. I think his recovery was helped by the Maties' victory."
