Elephants keen on Eriksson, Hiddink

GUUS Hiddink and Sven-Goran Eriksson have emerged as hot favourites to guide the Elephants of Ivory Coast during the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.

GUUS Hiddink and Sven-Goran Eriksson have emerged as hot favourites to guide the Elephants of Ivory Coast during the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.

Eriksson is unemployed after resigning from his position as director of football at Notts County last month following the club's takeover by Ray Trew.

Hiddink is working as coach of Russia's national team but his contract with their football union expires at the end of June. He is scheduled to start a new job in August as coach of Turkey.

Eriksson was the special guest of the Football Association of Ivory Coast when they went down 2-0 to South Korea in a friendly on Wednesday last week.

Ivory Coast, one of the six teams that will represent Africa at the World Cup, have been without a coach for two weeks after the dismissal of Vahid Halilhodzic.

He was shown the door after failing to deliver on his mandate of winning the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola in February. The side led by Chelsea's star striker Didier Drogba was eliminated by Algeria in the quarterfinals.

Former Bafana Bafana coach Phillipe Troussier is also interested in the job.
