THE Small Enterprise Development Agency has embarked on a community outreach campaign to popularise itself in Mpumalanga.

Hlonela Lupuwana, the agency's chief executive, says the campaign forms part of the government's broader campaign to extend developmental services to places where there has been minimal reach.

"Central to our focus now is ensuring equitable access for small enterprises to business support services, Lupuwana says.

"This outreach campaign provides us with an opportunity to reach even further than we have before to promote a culture of entrepreneurship and render much-needed services."

Seda provincial manager Ntokozo Majola says they have identified a number of outlying areas that will be targeted through the campaign.

"At the end of the campaign we want to make sure that everyone in the communities we will visit knows about the services we provide and how to access them," Majola says.

Seda's mandate is to develop and support small enterprises in the country to ensure their growth and sustainability.

The agency provides information, counselling and business support services targeting, in particular, micro- and small enterprises (including cooperatives) from all sectors throughout the country.

Seda also provides assistance to medium-sized enterprises and emerging entrepreneurs.

Seda spokesperson Busi Hlatshwayo says the campaign is further aimed at providing communities with information on how to access the agency's services at the various branches of the province.

"We also hope to establish and entrench sustainable partnerships with local municipalities and other developmental organisations so that services to the communities can be delivered in a coordinated way," he says.
