I applied for myself and my family. My daughter and I were accepted as indefinite refugees, but not my wife. The permanent residence certificate states that I was accepted to enter South Africa on March 13 2009, while I have been here since 1999. The letter of acceptance says my wife may be given residence because I am a principal applicant. When I got the residence, she was not included.
I was jubilant to apply for the green ID, hoping to unlock possibilities that I have been denied.
After three months I received a letter asking for the authentication of my marriage. The marriage was solemnised in the same Home Affairs in 2004 and I got the certificate from the archive.
Why didn' t they ask for the certificate when I applied ? When I took the certificate I was asked to submit a new application. Three months later I was told my ID is duplicated . I fear my application might turn out to be like many other cases of inefficiency by officials.
