THE new Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) leaders plan to engage legends such as Titus Mamabolo, Germina Sesoai and Sonja Laxton for assistance in the development of the sport.

"We want to bring all the legends on board to help us unearth and develop talent in the province," CGA president James Moloi said yesterday.

"In soccer they have formed a structure that is also used to help in development as one of the legacy

projects of the2010 Fifa World Cup.

"We want greats such as Titus Mamabolo, Germina Sesoai, Daniel Radebe, Xolile Yawa, Lawrence Peu, Peter Ngobeni, Gibeon Moshaba and Sonja Laxton to help us.

"A few days ago I bumped into another great, Matthews Batswadi. We want to bring them back into the sport and have already started talking to some of them.

"We will also employ a development officer to help us in the process of reviving the sport, with the focus on track and field as well as cross-country in the province."

Moloi said they did not have many athletes competing in track and field or cross-country.

"Our townships must start having competitions so that we can create awareness of events like pole vault, javelin, shot put, long jump and triple jump," he said.

"We want to see more cross-country competitions in our townships again. Cross-country is the cheapest because you can run anywhere.

"We will also be organising a series of workshops for our clubs to help improve their administration and run their activities more professionally."
