Details were unclear on how the 18-wheeler truck collided with the car on the R70 between Senekal and Ventersburg on Saturday night, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said.
Paramedics found three men and two women dead in the car.
"Most of the occupants were unrecognisable and sustained multiple fatal injuries," Vermaak said.
The truck overturned and the Corolla "was completely ripped apart", he said. The truck driver was taken to a hospital in Welkom. - Sapa
