BULLY Muravha was rushed to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg yesterday after collapsing in his dressing room at Nasrec Arena minutes after his eighth-round stoppage defeat by Osborne Machimana.

"The Bulldog" Muravha, 20, was knocked down twice in that round and lost his mouthpiece to a stiff jab. Referee Sazi Xamlashe stopped the fight after the second knockdown.

Muravha had lost the plot in his attempt to ousts "Big Daddy" Machimana as the South African heavyweight champion.

Machimana registered the sixth defence of the title he won in 2006. The fight yesterday was organised by promoter Pat Molefe's Rainbow Promotions.

Molefe said Muravha was nowhere near any danger but suspected that he was exhausted. Muravha was no match for Machimana. The challenger used the perimeter of the ring to draw Machimana in but ran out of steam.

About 600 fight fans, mostly Machimana's followers, got value for their money. Machimana' s experience showed throughout the fight but he admitted he hadunderestimated Muravha.

"I took him lightly but he surprised me," said Machimana. "I was going to take control from the sixth round but I had to start fighting since his confidence was growing."

Machimana's trainer, Nick Durandt, described Muravha as a small guy with very little experience. This was only his 10th professional fight, with five losses (all by stoppages), four wins and a draw.

"We knew he was going to be all over the place in the ring and that would make him tired. We trained for 12 rounds," he said.

Results in the undercard fights: Jason Kinnear beat Nhlanhal Mnguni; Luyanda Kako bt Sfisi Mthethwa; Phumzile Mathyila and Sipho Nakdimeng drew; Ilunga Makabu (DRC) bt Ben Mokamela; and Hanson Baloyi bt Emmanuel Duma.
