MINING giant Anglo American said yesterday it had told President Jacob Zuma it wanted to "work constructively" with the government.

MINING giant Anglo American said yesterday it had told President Jacob Zuma it wanted to "work constructively" with the government.

Chief executive Cynthia Carroll met Zuma on Wednesday morning while he was on a state visit to the UK.

Carroll updated Zuma on Anglo American's strategy and plans, the company said in a statement.

"I emphasised to Zuma Anglo American's continued commitment to investment, transformation and job creation in South Africa and to working closely and constructively with government," she said.

Pranill Ramchander, head of media relations at Anglo American in SA, said from London yesterday the meeting was not intended for the discussion of "issues, but rather it was a courtesy meeting".

"Zuma called the meeting just to touch base with Anglo as part of his visit to the UK because of it being the largest company and the biggest employer in South Africa." - Sapa and Staff Reporter
