LEARNING and teaching has resumed at Sebalamakgolo High School in Phalaborwa after two classrooms were completely burnt down on Tuesday.
The school was temporarily closed after the two classrooms were burnt down by angry pupils.
The pupils set the classrooms on fire after school management postponed a career exhibition trip to Polokwane that was supposed to happen yesterday.
Pupils were told at a school assembly on Tuesday morning that the date for the trip had been changed.
A source at the school said soon after the announcement a group of "hot-headed" pupils who had already made "plans" for the trip, walked out of the assembly and went straight to set the two classrooms alight.
"Some pupils were treated for smoke inhalation at local clinics and released later," the source said.
School books, tables and chairs were lost in the fire.
The situation was back to normal yesterday after management took a decision to indefinitely call off the trip.
The management also ensured that the safety of pupils was guaranteed by callingin the police to patrol the school premises during and after lessons.
A Grade 12 pupil who wanted to remain anonymous said: "We are learning under difficult circumstances. We cannot concentrate since we don't know when the next trouble will start."
Limpopo education department spokesperson Ndo Mangala said they were pleased with the turnout at the school yesterday.
He said although some pupils were still traumatised, classes had resumed.
Police spokesperson Ronnel Otto said the police were still questioning pupils and members of the community about the possible suspects.
