WHILE boxing fans are still to recover from a breathtaking display of pure boxing artistry by Tshifhiwa Munyai at Emperors Palace on Saturday night, Golden Gloves has announced that the "Atomic Spider" will fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight title on June 18.

Munyai, who gave fight fans and Filipino Daniel Ferreras a free boxing lesson on the night when he defended his WBA Intercontinental title, will face the winner of the bout between WBA champion Anselimo Moreno and Nehomar Cermeno on March 27.

Golden Gloves presented Munyai's debut at Emperors Palace last weekend and will be hosting the title fight at the same venue on June 18. Promoter Rodney Berman said given Munyai's sublime skills, he could beat either Moreno or Cermeno.

"Fighters like Munyai come along once in a decade," said Berman, and I've no doubt that he is far and away the finest bantamweight produced in South Africa in a long, long time."

Trainer Elias Tshabalala is in seventh heaven .

"We will showcase Munyai's skills once more," he said. "I promise the country that Munyai will take over from Patrick Mathebula, Gerrie Coetzee, Piet Crous, Brian Mitchell and Dingaan Thobela, who were the first local fighters to win WBA belts."
