A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for raping his girlfriend.
Johannes Chiloane of Pankop village near Hammanskraal was sentenced by the Temba regional court after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting his girlfriend.
The incident happened on August 19 2007.
The police said the victim, also from Pankop, laid charges the next day.
"She told us that she had been raped by a man who was known to her. She had been dating him for about three months before the incident, police spokesperson Sergeant Hastings Chaane said.
"The victim said they were returning from a local tavern at about midnight on that night.When they got home Chiloane wanted to have sex with her.
"When she refused, he forced her at gunpoint to have sex with him," Chaane said.
