AIRPORTS Company South Africa (Acsa) will set up temporary terminal facilities in partnership with Siemens at Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein's airports for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

Addressing the media as part of the World Cup 100 days countdown celebrations, Acsa's Chris Hlekane said the company faced a large number of passengers on match days at the two airports. Hlekane said the temporary terminals would be erected at a cost of R4,9million in Port Elizabeth and R4million in Bloemfontein.

"The high volume of passengers will be during the opening matches of the World Cup because all the 32 teams will be involved.

"These temporary facilities have been used at various global events to increase capacity. They have the capacity to process an additional 350 passengers arriving or departing per hour.

"We will have additional airline and airport customer service staff deployed at the temporary facilities," said Hlekane, who was supported by other high-ranking Acsa staff.

Hlekane also announced that the company had already started training staff to speak foreign languages.

"That is part of our customer-care programme, which will also include Fifa volunteers at various airports during the World Cup."
