THE Companies and Intellectual Property Registration has no records of Julius Malema's application to be deregistered as a director of SGL EngineeringProject.

The saga around Malema, pictured, the president of the ANC Youth League, continued yesterday with his lawyer failing to explain why the youth leader was still registered as a director of various companies.

Malema's lawyer, Tumi Mokwena, yesterday repeated Malema's defence that his signature confirming his directorship in SGL Engineering Project was forged and that he (Malema) resigned from other companies.

"I do not know who forged his signature. Shortly after his appointment as president of the ANC Youth League in 2008, Malema gave instructions that he be deregistered from all three companies where he was a director," said Mokoena.

But Cipro records show that Malema is still a director of four companies, including SGL Engineering Projects, the company that is said to have received more than R130million in government tenders.

Three of the companies - Blue Nightingale Trading 61, 101 Junjus Trading, Ever Roaring Investment - are in the process of being deregistered.

Cipro's Elsabe Conradie denied yesterday they had received an application to deregister Malema.

"We have not received any letter of resignation from Mr Malema or his attorney," she said.

She said companies that were in the process of being deregistered was because they had not returned their annual return fees and, according to the law, the companies would be automatically deregistered.

She said the companies would be reinstated after they had furnished Cipro with proof of annual tax returns and paid penalties.
