GANG of Instrumentals rocked the 100 days to the World Cup kickoff celebrations at the University of Johannesburg, Soweto Campus, yesterday.

Music lovers could not contain their excitement when Tumi, Mandla and Bongo walked on to the stage. They screamed and jumped for joy, much to the delight of the trio.

As usual GI, as the group is called, did not disappoint. They performed three songs, including the hit single Number One.

The 100 days to the kickoff celebrations coincided with the launch of the Fly the Flag Sho't Left roadshow campaign. Hosted by South African Tourism, the campaign encourages South Africans to explore their country as tourists.

Phumi Dhlomo, SA Tourism's regional director, said: "The campaign is designed to encourage South Africans to travel domestically and explore the country before, during and beyond the World Cup.

"To be better ambassadors and hosts, South Africans need to see themselves first as travellers and to understand that tourism is everyone's business. That is why the basic premise of our road show is: travel your country, it is easy and affordable."

SA Tourism has teamed up with EMI recording company on this campaign. In all the road shows, artists from this stable including Kwela Tebza, Ntando, Mandoza and GI will perform.

EMI vice-president for marketing Michelle Kruger said: "EMI and our artists are proud to lend support to a campaign promoting national pride, unity and appreciation of all that is South African."

Though the celebration was splendid, it ended on a disappointing note for fans when Ntando, Mandoza and Kwela Tebza could not perform because of time constraints.
